The Pittsburgh Penguins will wear their blue “third jerseys” for the first time of the 2009-10 season when they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday at Mellon Arena at 7:30 p.m.
It will be the first of 12 scheduled appearances for the blue “third jersey,” which has its roots in Penguins history of the late 1960s. The Penguins switched their official colors to black and gold in 1980, and did not wear blue again until the 2008 Winter Classic. Last season, the Pens adopted the light blue design as their official alternate uniform.
